Truckster Alternative: When a Paid Directory App Is Not Where Your Schedule Should Live

Updated August 31, 2026 · 7 minute read

Truckster is three products in one: a consumer food truck finder app, a catering and events marketplace, and a paid vendor subscription that puts your truck on their map. It was founded by a former Denver food truck owner, which shows in the parts that work. But if you are researching alternatives, it is probably for one of three reasons: the subscription price you had to contact them to learn, the coverage map that may not include your city, or the fact that after paying, your schedule still lives in their app instead of on your website. I run a mobile coffee business and built BuildMyMap for my own truck; here is the honest comparison.

What Truckster gets right

Real food truck DNA. It was started by someone who ran a truck for years, and features like Square-integrated ordering where you keep the full tip reflect that.

Calendar auto-sync. Connect Google Calendar and your Truckster schedule maintains itself. Correct design, same reason BuildMyMap works this way.

Catering and event leads. The marketplace side sources real gigs, and owner testimonials on their site credit it for bookings. If catering is your growth channel and you are in a covered metro, that pipeline has real value even with a lead fee attached.

Mobile ordering with pickup times and 86ing, paid straight into your Square account.

The honest limitations

The pricing is not published. Their own FAQ answers "how much does it cost" with a description and an invitation to contact them for specifics. You cannot comparison shop a number they do not print. Old app store reviews mention figures in the tens of dollars per month, but those are dated single reviews, not the current price, so treat them as unverified.

Coverage is a short list of metros. Their vendor app listing says they serve truck concepts in Colorado, Austin, and Portland today, while the consumer app description claims more cities. If your city is not clearly covered, you would be paying to appear in an app your customers do not open. Their consumer iOS app shows a modest ratings count, so gauge the local audience honestly before paying for access to it.

No website embed at all. We searched their site, vendor pages, and help center and found no way to put your Truckster schedule on your own website. The subscription buys presence inside their platform, full stop. Your own site is exactly as empty after subscribing as before.

The audience you build is theirs. Same directory economics as every platform: customers learn to open Truckster, where your competitors are one scroll away, rather than learning your link.

What BuildMyMap does differently

BuildMyMap puts the live map on the one property you own. A branded page with today's stop, the upcoming schedule, directions, and weather, synced from the calendar you already keep, embedded on your own website, with a short link for your Instagram bio, Google Business Profile, and QR codes. It works in any US city because it does not depend on a local app audience; it turns the audience you already have into people who always know where you are.

Pricing is published: founding rate of $150 setup plus $19 per month for the first 15 clients, then $200 plus $24. Cancel anytime. A person builds your page for you.

What BuildMyMap honestly does not do: bring you catering leads or take mobile orders. It is not a marketplace. If Truckster's lead pipeline is earning for you in a covered metro, that is a real feature a map page does not replace.

When to pick each

Pick Truckster if: you operate in one of their genuinely covered metros, the catering marketplace is feeding you gigs worth the subscription and lead fees, and in-app ordering matters to your line.

Pick BuildMyMap if: your city is not on their list, you want a published price, or you want the answer to "where are you today" to live on your own website under your own brand.

Both can coexist: they read from the same Google Calendar, so a truck in Denver could keep Truckster for leads while its own website finally answers the location question with its own map.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Truckster cost for food truck owners?

They do not publish it. Their FAQ describes a monthly subscription plus a lead generation fee on catering leads, and tells owners to contact them for pricing specifics. They do advertise a risk-free first month.

Can I put my Truckster schedule on my own website?

We could not find any embed or widget offering on their site, vendor pages, or help center. The subscription puts your schedule in their app and on their map, not on your website. If an embed matters to you, ask them directly before subscribing.

What cities does Truckster cover?

Their vendor app listing names Colorado, Austin, and Portland as served today, while their consumer app description claims additional metros. The lists do not fully match, so confirm your specific city with them, and gauge how many local customers actually use the app.

Does BuildMyMap replace Truckster's catering leads?

No. BuildMyMap is a live map for your own website, not a marketplace, and it will not send you catering gigs. If leads are why you pay for Truckster and they are converting, keep that and fix your website's location answer separately.

One link that always knows where you are.
